Working with mono in Minneapolis, we built DoWhateverItTakes.org for mono client Virgin Unite.

Visitors are asked to “Do Whatever It Takes” to put an end to youth homelessness. They pledge to do a stunt or embarrassing act if they’re able to raise enough funds to reach a monetary goal they set during the sign up process. If their goal is reached, they must actually make good on their pledge and go through with it – whether that means streaking, wearing underwear on their head for a day or shave their hair into a mullet.

The site includes integration with the YouTube API to handle video uploads, Facebook commenting and the PayPal API to handle ecommerce functions.

The game lives as a stand-alone site as well as being integrated into the smart Facebook page.

Players are challenged to catch snowballs falling from the sky in the seat of their fortwo cabrio. The goal is to build as many complete snowmen as possible while playing against the clock. Points are awarded based on how many snowmen a player builds during the allotted time; time bonuses are also given for any remaining time on the clock.

The game features 5 unique levels as well as a number of ‘power ups’ that give players more points or more responsive gameplay.

Here are a few screens from the game:

Shareacarol.com is the digital component of the 2011 holiday campaign for GSD&M client TJX brands – comprised of Marshalls, T.J.Maxx and HomeGoods. The campaign’s digital footprint encompassed fully functional experiences on a web site, Facebook and on iOS and Android devices.

The project involved shooting live action carolers on green screen and compositing them over top of a Google Maps Street View layer for the site and Facebook. Users could enter their own address to have the carolers sing in front of their house. They could also add special effects to the scene, such as snow, Christmas lights and a live action reindeer.

In the case of mobile, we developed a server-side app – the first of its kind that we’re aware of – that seamlessly composites the green screen videos of the carolers singing over top of a photo that consumers either upload, take with their device’s camera or select from a Facebook album.

The Facebook app can be accessed from the Marshalls, T.J.Maxx and HomeGoods Facebook pages while the web and mobile versions of the site can be found at ShareACarol.com.

We worked with Mechanica on the launch of The American Heritage Dictionary’s 5th Edition, designing and building a site experience around the concept ‘You Are Your Words.’ The core of the concept is that the words you use are about more than just communicating – they tell the world who you are.

The site brought this concept to life in a very literal way – engaging people to create a self-portrait in their own words. Visitors to YouAreYourWords.com can upload a photo or use their webcam to take a picture of themselves. They can then connect to Facebook or Twitter to pull in words from their social stream, or type some words that best define who they are. From there, Lollipop created a server-side application that composites a user’s words with their photo, creating a self portrait ‘in their own words’.

One of the largest challenges on this project was to develop an engaging interactive experience that didn’t rely on Flash or HTML5 functionality. The site is built on a Ruby on Rails infrastructure and uses front-end technologies that do not require the use of plug-ins or advanced browsers.

Here are some screens grabs from the site:

We worked with Goodby, Silverstein & Partners on the development of a rich media campaign for Dickies workwear. The creative consisted of multiple page takeover executions on popular destinations such as ESPN and Sports Illustrated.

When a plumber jiggles the handle on a broken toilet, first the toilet, then the entire page begins to leak and spray water, resulting in a high pressure explosion that reveals water pipes behind the page. The banner continues to animate with the campaign’s ‘Life Hurts’ message followed by a focus on the short sleeve work shirt. The takeaway is that Dickies workwear can stand up to just about anything you throw at it.

Below is a scaled down version of the creative execution. You can see a larger version by clicking here.

We work on all kinds of digital projects for North America’s biggest and best advertising agencies. Our clients expect outstanding work from us and we’re looking for an outstanding developer to join our team. Here’s what we’re looking for:

1. Four plus years of Actionscript 3 Object Oriented Programming experience. You come preloaded with a large bag of tricks. If you don’t know the difference between Papervision and Away3D, Greensock and Tweener or the Extends and Implements keywords, you’re not our developer. You’ll get a copy of Flash Builder and will be expected to live in it (Flash CS5 is for really complicated animations, not coding).

2. Competent non-Flash front end skills. That means html, css and javascript. We’re not going to make you do anything crazy in IE6 but some styling skills are mandatory (and every good Flash developer knows that javascript is really quite easy).

3. Knowledge of at least one backend programming language including database interaction. We’d prefer that language be PHP but we’ll respect you if it’s anything else (even .NET or something fresh like Node). You won’t be writing CRM apps for automotive clients but we would like to be able to throw a fun Facebook application your way every once in a while. Linux skills would make us happy too.

4. Legal ability to work in Canada. Geographic ability to work at an office at Spadina and Wellington in Toronto.

5. Because we do 99% of our client communications by phone and email, you’re going to need outstanding English written and verbal communication skills.

6. A post-secondary education (university degree is preferred but if you got yours running a surf camp in Thailand or counting condors in the Andes, we’re listening).

7. Ability to meet deadlines with a smile on your face. This is a tough business and it’s not for the faint of heart. Fun is paramount or we all go crazy.

8. Possession of that crazy, rare skill of making the Internet feel like magic.

9. Some links to show us and a description of your involvement in those projects.

10. Experience and passion in something awesome that doesn’t involve work.

In return, you’ll get to work on some of the best Flash projects out there while stuffing your portfolio with Fortune 500 goodies. We have a fun little office at Spadina and Wellington and a generous benefits plan. There’s usually beer in our fridge and a cabinet of hard liquor no one really touches.

If interested, please send your resume/portfolio to jobs@wearelollipop.com with “Senior Interactive Developer” in the subject line.

Lollipop collaborated with Goodby, Silverstein & Partners on the design and development of the web and mobile sites for Sprint Biz360, a site that showcases small businesses using Sprint products and services while helping business owners configure a tailored solution just for their needs. We partnered with with our sister company Panic & Bob on the video edit, while our friends at Yessian Music developed original music and sound design for the experience.

The footage for the site was shot on the high speed Phantom camera, giving a unique focus to each of the featured businesses that use Sprint products and services. Potential Sprint customers can build a custom solution for their business, print their custom solution and explore Sprint products and services in extensive detail.

The web site is also supported by a full mobile experience, optimized for both phones and tablets. Most Android devices are delivered the full video-based experience, while less robust devices experience a mobile site that provides full product and service details without some of the advanced interactivity found in the full version of the site.

We worked with Arnold Worldwide in Boston to create a Facebook app to support their Jack Daniel’s Independence Day campaign. The campaign features beautifully designed, limited edition letterpress posters celebrating the independent spirit that is synonymous with Jack Daniel’s. The result can then be shared on Facebook or downloaded as a high resolution file suitable for printing.

Others features include a nationwide ‘toast’ feature driven by the Google Maps API and a mini-documentary depicting the letterpress printing process.

We worked with Momentum New York to develop a media wall for their American Express OPEN client. The media wall was featured at the New York Times Small Business Summit.

The media wall project involved creating an animated multi-screen installation. The core of the media wall was a Ruby-on-Rails back-end integration component with ‘ Poken‘, a ‘social business card’ that links a physical device called a Poken with an online network. Conference attendees were each given a Poken for networking purposes – by touching two of them together, business and contact information is shared. When connected to a computer, the Poken transfers the information to an online social business network. An AIR application on the front-end connected with the Poken back-end and displayed real-time updates showing how many connections each attendee made.

The media wall also integrated with Twitter and 4Square check-ins, giving a real-time view of who was attending and what people were saying about the summit.

Here are some screen shots from the media wall:

We worked with Momentum’s New York team on an installation for their client American Express OPEN at the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) conference. The installation featured a game of concentration, pitting conference attendees against each other complete the game in shortest amount of time possible.

We developed a system that allowed the game to show on two screens simultaneously – the player’s screen showed all of their personal info and allowed them to provide more details with an on-screen keyboard. The audience screen showed the game board and high score board only, keeping the player’s personal information private.

Below are some screens from the installation and experience:
